What’s wrong with the educators of this new age of digital technology? Why they are expressing fears in welcoming technology to enhance today’s educational standards? Is it not wise to bring changes in the educational patterns as soon as possible? Well, these questions have brought new age learners in a dilemma whether implementing technology in education would be done soon or be delayed out of unnecessary fears.
We need visionary teachers, says Puttanam
The Labour Peer group said that people need to understand the natural conservatism of
technology that can only bring positive changes in today’s world, or otherwise, these changes will be withheld. In this respect, the Chairman of Atticus Education, Lord Puttnam, said that natural conservatism has an immense significance in higher education for a lot of people today. “We really need visionary teachers who can use all these new resources, who are not intimidated by them”, he said.
Lord Puttanam moreover said that several academic institutions are now taking strong and positive attempts towards bringing massive changes in the educational system. He asserted that the fears of losing a status and a job have prompted the future generation of worthy professors to put up challenges against the traditional teaching strategies. In this respect, he said, “We are watching a massively disruptive evolution within education, possibly for the first time in 100 years”.
Teachers need more support & encouragement
The Labour Peer group that has been associated with education for around 20 years pointed out the fact that the developments in education have been found to be slower than expected. Instead, teachers now require more encouragement and more support that can help them blend technology into their respective classrooms. “There is a wonderful sense of hope in primary schools and a wonderful sense of how to make the learning experience better”, Puttanam added.
As per reports by Lord Puttanam, the possibilities to complete higher studies by taking help of the internet are indeed high. Moreover, it was found:
- Around 1 million teachers have downloaded their course plans and have even take ideas online from teachers
- Out of those downloads, 71% were recorded to be user generated
- A lot of people considered teaching to be a private affair. Consequently, teachers had to maintain privacy in sharing their lesson plans, which is altogether an unpleasant scenario.
UK universities have their success stories
In support of technology to be implemented into education, Puttanam therefore said, “What we are seeing is a transition of people coming into the classroom for whom technology is a normal and natural way of life.” So, what he demanded were visionary teachers who can actually bring a lot of changes in the current academia.
Probably, this is a big reason why the UK universities today have achieved worldwide success in offering online courses to countless international students and working professionals. In fact, the global acceptance of education technology today has led the enrolment rates here to rise with the passage of time. The time has already come to shun brick and mortar classrooms and even books because technology will keep aside all such conventional learning sources to make career aspirants reach their goals with absolute convenience and rapidity.
